Celebrating Womens History Month with Woman-Owned: Sky High PEO

Woman-owned, led, and operated Sky High PEO is a different kind of PEO (professional employer organization). Sky High PEO is a full-service employment organization that helps various companies in various industries manage things like:

  • Human Resources
  • Staffing
  • Employee Benefits
  • Payroll processing
  • Risk Mitigation
  • Worker’s Compensation
  • 401K

Sky High PEO says: “regardless of the industry you’re in, or how many employees you have, we can provide the services you need to keep your employees satisfied and your business running smoothly.”

Sky High PEO services companies and industries all over the United States: east coast, midwest, west coast, and down south, and has offices all over those regions as well: Florida, California, Hawaii, Virginia, Canada, and Missouri, to name a few. I interviewed Veronica Lake, the founder, and CEO of Sky High PEO, to learn more about the company, the services, and how Sky High helps cannabis industry companies.

Get to Know Sky High PEO

In this Q & A, founder and CEO of Sky High PEO– Veronica Lake, tells all about the company and what she faced when launching. The interview has been slightly edited for clarity.

Prior to being the founder and CEO of Sky High PEO, what was your career?

“I worked in the staffing industry, but that didn’t seem to matter when I talked to men in business about launching Sky High PEO.When I officially opened, several men told me that there was no way it would ever succeed. They would hang up. Some even slammed the phone down, not allowing me to elaborate, but I pushed through and did what a lot of people couldn’t or wanted due to the stigma of Cannabis. I believe my strength came from growing up in foster care, surviving on my own, and believing in my wants and visions instead of what society tried to force on me.”

You all offer PEO services to cannabis businesses. Why do cannabis businesses need these services?

“Making it possible for employees to have: Health Care, Dental, Vision, COVID pay, 401K/ Retirement Programs, and Life Insurance is very important. If an employer can care for their employee, it shows compassion. Giving a person the ability to plan for the future with a retirement plan is the most selfless thing an employer can do. At the time the employee is working for an employer, they are caring for the business and/or product. Giving employees benefits and the ability to look forward to retirement shows you want the best for them. Caring for an employee leads to the employee caring for the business!”

What’s the most important thing for cannabis businesses to know about PEOs?

“The amount of money a company can save by partnering with a PEO is worth exploring. For example, workers’ compensation/benefits pricing is about three times lower than if a company were to purchase on its own. The PEO takes the liability away from the owner, and with the PEO handling all areas of Human Resources, the owner of the company can concentrate on growing their business instead of the day-to-day Human Resources tasks/functions.

SKY HIGH PEO fights for the company and against workers’ compensation fraud. We will investigate and report any fraudulent claims. The truth is business owners need to concentrate on the business and allow a PEO to manage the people aspect. A PEO that will fight for them.”

Please tell me about Sky High PEO being an “A” rated workers’ compensation carrier.

“An A-rated insurance company is one that the credit agencies judge to be on strong financial footing. An A-rated insurance company is more likely to honor the terms of your policy than a company with a lower grade.”

Is there any state in the United States that Sky High PEO doesn’t service?

“Sky High PEO has the ability to do business in any legalized medical or adult-use Cannabis state.”

In Closing

I asked Veronica to close out our interview with a piece of advice for employers that want to retain their top talent. Veronica responded: “Partner with Sky High PEO.”

What Does The Future Hold For Discovering New CBD Health Benefits?

There have already been so many incredible health and medical benefits of CBD oil that it can be difficult to believe that there could possibly be any more. The list of benefits to human health are seemingly endless, and range from reducing chronic pain to potentially slowing down the growth of cancerous tumors.

With health benefits like these, some may wonder if we’ve tapped out all the possible health benefits of CBD oil.

Before we dive deeper into the future of CBD oil health benefit discoveries, let’s review some of the more prominent and promising benefits that we already know about today that have been backed by science.

Reducing Anxiety

Anxiety is a big deal these days. In fact, anxiety disorder is the most common mental health disorder in the U.S. with approximately 40 million adults being affected by anxiety each year. Anxiety disorders are easily treatable with medication and therapy, yet less than 40% of people who suffer from it actually seek and receive treatment.

While pharmaceutical drugs can definitely help ease anxiety, CBD oils can work just as well to help treat the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder and panic attacks. Research has found that CBD significantly reduces anxiety without the sluggish effects that many prescribed anti-anxiety medications tend to induce.

Treating Epileptic Seizures

One of the earliest discovered health benefits of CBD oil products is its ability to dramatically lower the frequency and severity of seizures, particularly in children. Many studies have shown that CBD is actually superior to placebos in reducing the frequency of convulsive seizures in patients suffering from various types of neurological disorders.

Alleviating Pain

CBD oil can be a natural pain reliever. For some users, itt is rivaling prescription and over-the-counter pain medications. Studies have shown that cannabinoids like CBD can be highly useful in alleviating pain by blocking or slowing neuron transmission along pain pathways.

Helping to Combat Cancer

Many scientific reports have linked CBD oil to slowed and inhibited cancer cell migration and invasion. One study showed that CBD oil is able to inhibit the growth of various breast tumor cells, while not causing as much damage to healthy cells like traditional cancer treatment tends to do.

Further, CBD oil can help alleviate the negative side effects of cancer treatments including chemotherapy and radiation. The nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite that is typically associated with cancer treatment can be significantly lessened and even eliminated with the consumption of CBD.

Reducing the Onset of Diabetes

CBD oil can reduce plasma levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines that implicate Type 2 diabetes. It’s also been linked to lower fasting insulin levels as well as smaller waist circumferences. Two factors associated with the onset of diabetes symptoms.

Improving Heart Health

Although CBD oil doesn’t actually interact with the cardiovascular system directly, its effect on the endocannabinoid system can be beneficial to heart health by lowering blood pressure, reducing inflammation and reducing arrhythmias.

What’s the Future For New Discoveries of CBD Health Benefits?

With the previous and ongoing studies on CBD oil, things are certainly going well for the cannabinoid and the people who are benefiting from its use. Many proponents of CBD oil foresee it growing a lot more than it already has. This says a lot given how quickly CBD products and especially CBD oil drops have gained in popularity and acceptance over the recent past.

The entire wellness market continues to grow and with CBD oil being a big part of this industry, it’s expected that things will continue to look up for cannabidiol. Studies on CBD are still in their infancy, so there really is much more to be learned. In fact, it’s quite possible that other cannabinoids in the cannabis plant may continue to show increasing promise in terms of health benefits.

Though CBD is still stigmatized to some degree, perspectives are changing. CBD oil has already shown the potential to have an incredibly positive effect on human health. As an increasing number of people use it and benefit from it, it may not be far-fetched to believe that laws will become much more accepting surrounding CBD to allow for more freedom and flexibility to do research on how it helps users live a healthier lifestyle.

What Does CBD Oil Do? Explore 3 CBD Oil Key Benefits

As more states move to legalize medical and adult use cannabis, more and more people are paying attention to the potential therapeutic benefits of cannabinoids.

One cannabinoid in particular – CBD – has been thrust into the spotlight because it provides all of the potential therapeutic benefits of cannabis without the psychoactive high. Understandably, people are curious.

How can it provide the potential benefits of marijuana without the psychoactive high?

First off, CBD is extracted from agricultural hemp plants and usually takes the form of an oil. A variety of the cannabis indica plant, agricultural hemp contains only trace amounts of THC – which means there’s not enough to produce the high.

Once extracted from the hemp plant, cannabidiol oil can then be mixed and matched to come in many forms for user consumption.

CBD oil is commonly mixed and found in CBD creams, gels, salves, sprays, capsules, and tinctures. Most topical uses are easy to apply and offer a convenient way to consume CBD oil. Tinctures and capsules are easy to take orally and can provide the same effects as cannabidiol oil, while CBD drops are also a common ingestion method.

CBD can also be found in edible forms, often as a chocolate candy or sweet. All of these forms can be highly concentrated and have different benefits. Its flexibility in the concentration allows the user to find an appropriate dosage for their needs.

You can inhale or smoke cannabidiol with cbd vape oil as well. Vapor pens work with cartridges filled with CBD oil so the user can easily inhale (similar to an e-cigarette).

More research is being done on the potential health effects of CBD, but overall it’s becoming adopted more as part of a healthy lifestyle. Users classify the effects as more therapeutic rather than mind-altering.

Here are three examples of potential health benefits people have experienced from using CBD:

CBD and Anxiety Relief

CBD oil might be able to help you lower your stress and manage anxiety levels. Researchers have found evidence that CBD oil affects how the brain responds to serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical that helps regulate mental health such as anxiety, mood, and happiness.

Findings suggest that consistent use of CBD can lead to anti-panic effects for the user. One study shows the effects of cannabidiol on someone who is about to give a speech in public:

Pretreatment with CBD significantly reduced anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort in their speech performance, and significantly decreased alert levels in their anticipatory speech.

Some people say that marijuana gives them paranoia or anxiety, but that’s again from the THC component in cannabis. CBD has an antipsychotic nature that counteracts THC, and may actually help regulate your mental state by calming you down.

One common example for cannabidiol use to combat stress and anxiety in patients suffering from PTSD. Users have reported feeling their symptoms post-traumatic stress disorder lessen, including the overwhelming psychological effects like increased heart rate and stress.

CBD as a Treatment for Pain and Inflammation

One of the primary benefits from CBD oil for many users is that it helps with pain management along with reducing inflammation. CBD use is commonly recommended to help with various types of chronic pain, including back pain, cancer, and the aftermath of chemotherapy treatments.

CBD’s therapeutic effects on pain stem from interrupting pain receptors throughout the body. Rather than stimulating pain sensors, CBD facilitates a release of serotonin and dopamine. These chemicals can help reduce discomfort and pain for some people.

The National Institutes of Health have also found preliminary research to support the therapeutic benefits of CBD for certain chronic conditions, such as:

  • Muscle pain
  • Arthritis
  • Multiple sclerosis pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Neuropathic pain from spinal cord injuries
  • Anti-epileptic treatment

More research suggests that the effects of CBD may be primarily correlated with its anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have suggested that CBD may improve neurodegenerative symptoms by reducing inflammation before it gets worse.

CBD as a Non-Addictive Sleep Aid

Another reason many people turn to cannabidiol oil is for the feeling of tiredness it brings. CBD oil comes with stronger sedative properties that can help people who have trouble sleeping.

Where many pharmaceutical sleeping pills or aids come with a risk of addiction or a groggy feeling in the morning, CBD is non-addictive and shouldn’t lead to any drowsiness for most people.

CBD is commonly used by people suffering from sleeping issues that includes insomnia, restless leg disorder, interrupted sleep, and similar afflictions.

Preliminary research finds potential benefits from CBD’s effect on sleeping patterns. Certain sleep apneas stemming from serotonin issues, REM sleep disorders, excessive daytime sleepiness and even nightmares associated with PTSD are sleeping issues where the benefits of cbd oil can help.

If you find your life affected by stress and anxiety, pain or inflammation, or sleeping problems, CBD oil might be able to help mitigate the issue. Talk to your doctor about ways CBD products may play a part in a holistic health and wellness routine. CBD for ADHD (Research & Dosage Guide)

CBD FOR ADHD (RESEARCH & DOSAGE GUIDE)

WHAT IS ADHD?

ADHD is the medical abbreviation for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. It is a neurodevelopment disorder that is frequently diagnosed in children and often lasts into adulthood.

Children with ADHD may have trouble focusing and paying attention, be overly active, or may act without thinking things through.

There are three types of ADHD, depending on the types of symptoms your child displays the strongest, including predominantly inattentive presentation, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation, and combined presentation.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ADHD?

Attention deficit children may have trouble focusing and behaving, similar to other children. However, children with ADHD don’t really grow out of these behaviors and fuzzy focus. The symptoms do continue, may be severe, and can make completing school difficult, interacting at home, or hanging out with friends.

An individual with ADHD may show signs and symptoms, such as:

Talking too much
Making careless mistakes
Taking unnecessary risks
Having a hard time resisting temptation
Having difficulty getting along with others
Squirm or fidget often
Daydreaming frequently
Forget or loses things
Has trouble taking turns

WHAT IS THE USUAL TREATMENT FOR ADHD?

ADHD is typically treated with traditional treatment options, including pharmaceuticals. Common medications used to manage signs and symptoms of ADHD include non-stimulants, stimulants, or anti-depressants. These conventional options may be accompanied by harmful side effects, such as lack of appetite, sleeplessness, psychiatric issues, and potential addiction, to name a few.

Many parents who have children with ADHD are concerned about the adverse effects of these medications. More parents than you’d imagine are slowly becoming open to trying different, holistic alternatives.

Cannabidiol (CBD) has continued to gain massive attention in the last 5 - 10 years, with various research studies supporting the natural therapeutic effects of this compound for anxiety, heart health, seizures, and more.

HOW CAN CBD HELP ADHD?

Cannabidiol is almost always referred to as CBD oil. It is the non-psychoactive component of the cannabis plant, meaning, it won’t get you “high” or “stoned”. It’s very different than compounds that are also taken from the cannabis plant. For instance, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a well-known psychoactive compound in the cannabis world, exerting euphoric effects in users.

CBD oil can be derived from both the marijuana and hemp plants. The biggest difference for where CBD is extracted from? The amount of THC. Hemp-derived CBD oil contains little to no THC, 0.0% - 0.3% to be exact. However, if you have marijuana-derived CBD oil, this may contain 0.3% - 25% THC. Big differences here!

So what does CBD oil as a holistic alternative contribute to ADHD symptom management?

Some experts may claim that cannabidiol can be used in managing ADHD symptoms, whilst others say it’s too soon to know. There is limited research supporting CBD oil in the treatment of ADHD, but the research is a promising start in the right direction. Research is still much needed.

CBD oil for ADHD may help alleviate symptoms, such as hyperactivity and impulsivity.

WHAT RESEARCH HAS BEEN DONE ON CBD & ADHD?

CBD for ADHD has come a long way in a short amount of time, so to speak. Though the ADHD and CBD research is well in its infancy stages, the results are more than noteworthy.

A 2017 randomized-controlled trial investigated the role of cannabinoids in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in 30 adults. Researchers suggested that preliminary evidence supports the use of cannabinoids in ADHD.

Adults with ADHD may represent a subgroup of individuals who experience symptom reductions with no cognitive impairment following cannabinoid use.

CBD has also been shown to help enhance cognitive functioning, including learning, mood, attention, and memory.

A 2017 CBD study looked at the effects of CBD on the mesolimbic dopamine system. Researchers discussed the power of CBD and its modulatory effects on dopamine activity states.

CBD may help normalize affective and cognitive deficits, representing a promising approach, acting through novel mesolimbic factors.

CBD oil has also been investigated as potential treatment for anxiety disorders.

Existing preclinical evidence points to CBD as a strong treatment for anxiety, panic, social anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorders when administered acutely. Current evidence may indicate that cannabidiol has considerable potential as a treatment for multiple anxiety disorders in relevant clinical populations.

CAN CBD HELP TREAT ADHD IN KIDS?

CBD and ADHD has been in the development stages pretty in-depth these last few years.

A 2018 CBD and ADHD study reported parents’ experiences of administering CBD to their children diagnosed with ADHD.

Researchers reported that CBD administration in children with ADHD improved their rage and self-injury by 68%, with 68% also reporting lessened symptoms of hyperactivity.

IS THERE A MINIMUM AGE?

Studies have looked at CBD administration in children as young as 4, up to 22, and for years beyond. There isn’t necessarily a “starting age” for those with ADHD looking to try CBD as a therapeutic option.

Talk with your primary care physician prior to starting your child on any new supplements or CBD oil regimes. CBD is not intended to cure, treat, prevent, or diagnose any ailment, condition, disease, or health concern.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CBD FOR ADHD?

There may be numerous benefits of individuals who have ADHD while taking CBD oil.

It has been suggested that CBD could help

Normalize social deficits

Behavioral problems

Cognitive impairments

Protect against hippocampal death

Improve cognition

Improve memory

Improve mood

It has been demonstrated, in both human and animal studies, that CBD may have an anxiety-reducing effect, with non-toxic, non-addictive, generally safe attributes

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF CBD FOR ADHD?

Potential side effects for individuals with ADHD who are taking CBD can range for little to no side effects, as reported thus far.

CBD, as like any other form of drug, may have a potential for side effects or other drug interactions, especially if they are metabolized through the liver. However, minor side effects have been reported for those taking CBD, such as:

  • Drowsiness
  • Lethargy
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting

If the side effects from any traditional medication come with a whole slew of concerns, CBD oil may be a less frightening option for your child. Again, talk with your doctor before starting any CBD regime, as CBD may interact with your child’s current medications.

WHAT DOSAGE OF CBD HELPS WITH ADHD?

CBD dosage for ADHD isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach really. Animal and human trials have assessed various doses of CBD on various ailments, conditions, and health concerns, and their consensus? More research is warranted.

If you have talked with your child’s physician and they have encouraged you to explore the avenues of pure CBD oil, then it’s best to talk about dosage recommendations as well.

We highly encourage you to start off “low and slow” with your administration dosage. It’s always better to start with too little than to start with too much, right?

CBD Effects on Cardiovascular Heart Disease

Every year about 735,000 Americans have a heart attack. In the United States alone, someone experiences a heart attack every 40 seconds. Almost half of all Americans (49% to be exact) have at least one risk factor for developing heart disease in their lifetime. Can it really happen to anybody at any time?

Can CBD help treat or prevent heart disease?

Few people actually know that cannabinoids can be used to maintain heart health, treat heart conditions, and lower blood pressure (just to name a few). As cannabis becomes more widely accepted, information about cannabis extracts, like CBD oil, and its potential to cure many ailments has been an eye-stopping topic in research and medical sectors alike.

In today’s article, we will be discussing the therapeutic advancements of CBD for heart health as well as updates with what’s going on in the current research.
Ready, set, let’s lub-dub!

The Endocannabinoid System, heart health, and the effects of CBD

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) consists of both the central and peripheral nervous systems. Endocannabinoids that are synthesized in the central nervous system (CNS) are involved in pain perception, motor functions, learning, memory, and stress responses, to list a few. Endocannabinoids can also be synthesized in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) including tissues of the heart, GI tract, and blood cells, where they influence inflammatory responses, blood pressure, heart rate, and vasodilation.

According to the Journal of the American Heart Association, the endocannabinoid system plays a major role in the cardiovascular system, especially in disease states. CBD has been suggested as a potential therapeutic method for various disorders of the cardiovascular system.

So what’s “heart health”? What constitutes for a healthy heart?

Over the average lifetime, according to Harvard Health, the heart beats up to 2.5 billion times - pumping millions of gallons of blood (I mean MILLIONS) to every part of the body, every second of your life. This steady flow of blood carries fuel, hormones, a host of cells, oxygen, and many other compounds. When the heart stops beating, essential functions fail, almost instantaneously.

The heart is a never-ending workaholic (in the best way, of course) - it performs so well, for so long, so many of us. Unfortunately, our hearts can also fail, being slowed down by a poor diet, lack of exercise, smoking, some not-so-lucky genes, and much more.

Many people can develop some form of cardiovascular disease (CVD) throughout their lifetime. Luckily, developing CVD is not inevitable. A healthy lifestyle goes a loooong way in preventing cardiovascular diseases and issues.

Eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and lowering the amount of daily stress in your life, are key to ensuring your heart stays healthy.

WHAT IS Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a global epidemic representing the leading cause of death in Western countries. According to the American Heart Association, 92.1 million US citizens have one more forms of CVD, with numbers expected to grow up to 44% of the US population in the next ten years. Yikes.

Cardiovascular disease refers to a group of conditions that generally involve blocked or narrowed blood vessels that can lead to a heart attack, chest pain, or stroke. Other conditions that may affect your heart’s muscle, valves, or even sinus rhythm, fall under the umbrella of heart disease.

The Journal of the American Heart Association suggest that endocannabinoids may be a promising approach as a therapeutic agent for cardiovascular disease (CVD).

CURRENT THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES TO Cardiovascular Disease

CVD PREVENTION

1) Exercise

A 2005 original study published in Experimental & Clinical Cardiology found that individuals who exercise on a regular basis reduce overall blood pressure and decreases LDL and total cholesterol, and increase HDL cholesterol.

2) Diet

In the same Experimental & Clinical Cardiology paper noted above, researchers concluded that a plant-based diet can help prevent and potentially reverse coronary artery disease ( also referred to as CAD - this falls within the CVD umbrella too). Coronary events were shown to be reduced by 70%-73% in all-cause mortality in the plant-based diet individuals.

3) CBD Oil

A 2012 article published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology made an impactful footprint on the role of cannabinoids and the cardiovascular system.

Researchers found that CBD treatment protects against heart damage and cardiomyopathy, which is associated with diabetes. Similarly, CBD has been shown to reduce infarct size (aka tissue legion). CBD also reduces the cardiovascular response to models of stress. In addition, CBD influences the survival and death of white blood cells, migration, and platelet aggregation in blood.
These preclinical data findings appear to support a positive role for CBD oil and heart health.

CBD For Congestive Heart Failure

When a person has congestive heart failure, the expression of the cardiomyocytes, heart muscle cells, and endothelial cells change as well as the amount of circulating immune cells. In cardiomyocytes and endothelial cells,CB2 receptors initiate inflammation and CB1 receptors promote cardiac dysfunction, even cell death.

Published in the Journal of the American Heart Association in 2018, CB1 antagonism and CB2 agonism were suggested to be anti-atherogenic. A specific CB1 antagonist can be used to treat obesity and reduce the progression of atherosclerosis by lowering proinflammatory cytokines.

Cannabidiol therapies directed at the ECS may relax human pulmonary arteries in an endothelium-independent manner.

Effects of CBD on Heart Rates and Arrhythmia

Frontiers in Pharmacology published a systematic review and meta-analysis in 2017 summarizing the effects of cannabidiol. Of the 22 publications assessed, CBD had no effect of blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) in controlled conditions. During stressful situations, CBD administration significantly was shown to reduce the increase in blood pressure and heart rate that was induced by stress. One study included in this systematic review and meta-analysis assessed CBD administration on cardiac arrhythmias and found no change in BP.

CBD was suggested  to have no effect on blood pressure, heart rate, and cardiac arrhythmias.

Does CBD Lower Blood Pressure?

In 2017, researchers studied the effects of a single dose of CBD and its effects on blood pressure in a randomized cross over study. The participants were healthy male volunteers who were placed in a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, crossover study to either 600 mg of CBD or a placebo. Researchers found that CBD-treated participants showed reductions in resting blood pressure, reductions in stroke volume, increases in heart rate, and maintenance in cardiac output.

This recent study found that one dose of CBD was effective in lowering blood pressure.

Does CBD Increase Blood Pressure

In 2012, researchers reviewed cannabidiol as a therapeutic target for the cardiovascular system. They found that CBD treatment, in vivo, did not appear to have any effect on resting blood pressure or heart rate, but did show reductions in cardiovascular response to various scenarios of stress.

This review presented evidence of CBD having positive effects in the cardiovascular system.

Effects of CBD on Blood Pressure

A 1999 study performed on mice found that CBD treated mice had similar blood pressures to vehicle-treated mice. The CB1 receptors involved in the control of blood pressure were shown to be tonically inactive. Regardless of the mechanisms involved, cannabinoid-induced vasodilation may have therapeutic implications on vascular diseases.

Blood pressure may not change significantly with CBD intake.

Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)  MANAGEMENT & TREATMENT

There are different options that individuals can consider for treating CVD, naturally and with pharmaceutical regimens.

Natural treatments include: Drug regimens include:
  • Lifestyle changes/adjustments Antihypertensive agents
  • Increased physical activity Statins
  • Changing to a healthy diet Beta-blockers
  • Losing excess weight Blood-thinning medications
  • Stopping smoking
  • Decreasing stress
  • CBD oil

For most individuals, a combination of both options listed above can help reduce your risk of developing CVD. Just like making a delicious smoothie, you add a combination of ingredients to get your ideal drink!

When considered together, the options reported above show that the probability of heart attack events or stroke is decreased with long-term regular exercise. These vascular angiogenic effects developed by physical activity, lend additional support to the hypothesis that exercise is tremendously beneficial for the cardiovascular system. Individuals who exercise on a regular basis after having a heart attack lower their risk of death by 20-25% compared to individuals who don’t exercise after having their first heart attack.

A 2010 study by Walsh et al. analyzed the administration of  cannabidiol in cardiac arrhythmias and infarct size. Researchers found that not only did CBD demonstrate cardioprotective characteristics by reducing ventricular arrhythmias, but also attenuating infarct size.

Research On the effects of CBD Oil and Cardiovascular Heart Health

According to the World Health Organization, cannabidiol (CBD) is generally well tolerated with a good safety profile. Preclinical studies show that CBD has numerous cardiovascular benefits.

This study found that one single dose of CBD was shown to reduce resting blood pressure.

A recent 2017 study published in JCI Insight assessed the effects of a single dose of cannabidiol in a randomized crossover study. Nine healthy male volunteers were either given 600 mg of CBD or a placebo. Researchers demonstrated that CBD administration reduced resting systolic blood pressure and stroke volume, increased heart rate, and maintained cardiac output.

CBD may be used as a treatment for various cardiovascular disorders, such as hypertension, heart attack, and stroke.

A 2017 systematic review and meta-analysis of the hemodynamics effects of cannabidiol discussed important findings in the cannabidiol literature, thus far. CBD did not affect hemodynamics under control conditions per se, however, the analysis did reveal the effects of CBD in pathological situations. CBD may regulate the hemodynamics when altered at times of stress or acute illness.

Conclusion: Using CBD Oil As Treatment For Congestive Heart Failure

Let’s put this heart back together now, shall we?
Whether individuals are in prevention, treatment, or management stages of cardiovascular disease, CBD oil holds true as a therapeutic, all-natural method for reducing inflammation, blood pressure, stroke volume, infarct size, and overall cardiovascular disorders. These studies suggest that the cardiovascular system is a valid and therapeutic target for CBD.
However, more human subject research studies are needed to fully determine and assess the efficacy of CBD oil as a treatment for CVD. Large sample size, randomized, controlled trials are needed to better assess the benefits of CBD oil, including their effects on CVD and hemodynamics. Until then, the systematic reviews and original articles suggesting that CBD has positive effects on CVD hold promise.

CAN CBD HELP MY ANXIETY?

The classic conversation of, ‘how are you’, ‘good how are you’ covers just the surface. What if the ‘how are you’ response was a complicated, not-so-pretty, and deeply honest answer backed with anxious thoughts? What if we all experience anxiety in some form or another, at different times or all at the same time, or in overwhelming or small doses?

Speaking in front of a large audience? Anxiety creeps up. Driving in stop-and-go traffic? Anxiety pops up. Nothing happens at all? Anxiety’s around the corner.

So how can we better approach, reduce, and manage our anxiety?

In today’s article, we’ll overview the types of anxiety and their symptoms, the amazing benefits of what cannabidiol can bring to reducing your anxiety, and the research behind the beautiful effects of CBD as an anti-anxiety agent.

No room to overthink, just room to relief, let’s go!

ANXIETY: AN OVERVIEW

Here’s the juice: we all experience anxiety. However, when the feelings become too intense, overwhelming, or put you in distress when doing your daily routine, an anxiety disorder may be lurking around the corner.

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the United States today, affecting nearly 18% of the population, that’s 40 million adults per year.

Anxiety is defined as an emotion characterized by feelings of worried thoughts, tension, and or physical changes in blood pressure, as described by the American Psychological Association.

TYPES OF ANXIETY

There are numerous types of anxiety disorders, but we’ll be discussing the most common types today: social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, phobias, and panic disorder.

1. SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER

This isn’t someone who’s “shy”, this is more. This disorder causes intense fear about social interactions, often driven by irrational fears and worries about being humiliated. For instance, someone with social anxiety disorder may not speak up in conversations, voice their ideas in class discussions, or may become isolated.

2. GENERALIZED ANXIETY DISORDER (GAD)

GAD creates chronic, exaggerated worrying about every day living. This worrying may consume hours and hours of your day, making it difficult to concentrate or complete daily tasks. Someone with GAD may become extremely tired by worry and experience tension, headaches, and or nausea.

3. PHOBIAS

As humans, we tend to avoid certain situations or things that make us uncomfortable (or maybe even fearful). But for a person with a phobia, certain events, places, or objects can create powerful reactions of irrational fear. Most individuals with specific phobias have several things that can trigger these reactions. Depending on the type and number of triggers that person may have, attempts to control this fear can take over their life.

4. PANIC DISORDER

Panic attacks and sudden feelings of terror coming back repeatedly, without any warning? Yep, that characterizes a panic disorder. Often commonly mistaken for a heart attack, a panic attack causes powerful physically-altering symptoms, including heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, chest pain, and stomach upsets.

SYMPTOMS OF ANXIETY

All anxiety disorders can have one thing in common: persistent, excessive fear, or worry in situations that are not threatening. According to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), individuals typically experience one or more of the following symptoms:

PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS

  • Sweating, tremors, twitches
  • Headaches, fatigue, insomnia
  • Upset stomach, frequent urination, diarrhea
  • Pounding or racing heart
  • Shortness of breath

EMOTIONAL SYMPTOMS

  • Feeling tense or jumpy
  • Feelings of dread
  • Anticipating the worst
  • Being watchful for signs of danger
  • Restlessness or irritability

So now that we’ve got our barring’s on anxiety and what it may look like, how can we help, reduce, and manage it? Are there natural options available in addition to conventional pharmaceutical medications?

Keep reading to find out!

THE BRIDGE BETWEEN ANXIETY AND CBD OIL

We’re at the bridge: the side we’re on is anxiety-ridden, the other side? CBD and its research on the amazing effects of reducing and helping anxiety. Race you there? GO.

How can CBD help my anxiety? What does it do for me physically and mentally? First, let’s rehearse what cannabidiol is and how it functions inside our bodies.

HOW CANNABIDIOL WORKS

Cannabidiol (CBD) is just one of the hundred plus phytocannabinoids present in the cannabis plant. It’s the non-psychoactive part of the plant - it won’t get you “high” or “stoned”.

There have been consistent findings across clinical studies over the last decade, exhibiting that cannabidiol is widely considered as safe, generally well-tolerated, lacks toxicity, non-addictive, and non-intoxicating with no reinforcing properties, according to an opinion article published in Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA).

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ECS IN ANXIETY

CBD supports the endocannabinoid system, known as the ECS, for short. Each and every one of us has a working ECS in our body.

The ECS has two main receptors: cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) and cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2). Cannabidiol binds to these receptors indirectly, thus, you won’t get the “high” that is typically associated with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which binds directly with the CB1 and CB2 receptors.

Evidence from recent clinical studies have demonstrated that CBD may be a potential source for new medications for the treatment of anxiety disorders, with the involvement of the ECS.

THE EVIDENCE

A foundational study for the anti-anxiety effects of CBD was published in 1990. This rat study investigated the presence of anxiolytic properties in cannabidiol. Researchers randomized the rats’ doses including 2.5, 5.0, and 10.0 mg/kg of body weight. The results from the study suggested that cannabidiol can cause selective anxiolytic effects, within a limited range of doses.

Researchers concluded that CBD may cause various anti-anxiety effects, with a range of doses.

A 2010 study out of Brazil investigated the anxiety-reducing effects of CBD in generalized social anxiety disorder. Human subjects in this study were given 400 mg of CBD orally or a placebo. Researchers discovered that those who were given CBD were associated with a significant decrease in subjective anxiety.

These results suggest that CBD may help reduce anxiety in social anxiety disorder.

A large 2019 case series examined the role of CBD in anxiety and sleep. This study had 103 adult patients at a psychiatric clinic. In the first month of CBD treatment, 79.2% of patients had decreased anxiety scores and continued to remain decreased during the study’s duration.

CBD may hold promising benefits for anxiety-related disorders.

Recently published in Current Neuropharmacology, a 2020 review  investigation examined the “entourage effect” of terpenes coupled with cannabinoids for the treatment of anxiety disorders.

This article reviewed the current literature surrounding cannabinoids. Researchers suggested that endocannabinoids have been shown to exert clinical efficacy in treating anxiety disorders.

Cannabinoids may be an important potential source for new medications for the treatment of anxiety disorders.

WHAT DOSAGE DO I TAKE

Clinically, more work is needed to be done to provide a safe, accurate, and effective recommended dosage for cannabidiol.

The amount of CBD an individual may need will varying depending on their size, age, and sex. In most cases, it’s best to begin with a small amount of CBD to gauge your reaction. Then, increase or decrease how much you consume, accordingly.

Always consult with your physician prior to starting any new supplements and or medications.

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE CBD OIL

So where do you start? The internet, well of course!

The perks of using the internet to navigate endocannabinoids and various cannabidiol companies is that you can do it in the comfort of your own home. No need to ask strangers questions about the products, you can simply type it out. But, be aware that not all products are equal. Not every company provides the same quality control, lab testing, and product descriptions as one another. So, just because one cannabinoid oil is cheaper than the other, doesn’t mean it will be better or stronger.

6 TIPS TO REDUCE YOUR ANXIETY

Let’s wrap things up, shall we? You’ve got the lowdown on anxiety now, you’ve got the CBD options to consider, now how can you help reduce your anxiety TODAY?

I’ve created a “quick six” anxiety-reducer guide for you here:

1. TAKE A BREATHER

Take deep breaths. Inhale slowly, exhale slowly. If you’re a numbers person like me, it helps if I count to 4 when I inhale and counting to 4 when I exhale. Doing this a couple times repeatedly throughout your day can help!

Give it a try…..inhale 1, 2, 3, 4, hold, and exhale 1, 2, 3, 4.

2. TACKLE YOUR TRIGGERS

This sounds like a big one, but one step at a time friend! Is it work? School? Something else you can identify? Journal down these thoughts and feelings, give yourself a break from everyday stress. Even if it’s only a couple words down on paper.

3. EXERCISE

Who said mental anxiety can be physically beaten up? Exercising daily can not only help you mentally relax, but also maintain your health physically. Something as simple as taking a 20 minute outside can do wonders for your brain (and muscles too)!

4. LISTEN TO MUSIC

Put your earphones in and zone out. Listening to your favorite music may  help boost your mood. Stepping back from the anxiety-ridden problems for a couple minutes may help you clear your head.

5. “LOL” OUT LOUD

Really. Laugh. Welcome in humor. A good laugh goes a long way! Turn on a comedy show on Netflix or look up a funny podcast. You may even think it has good enough jokes to share with your friends.

6. TALK TO SOMEONE

You aren’t “weak” or “broken” for reaching out. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, there are healthcare professionals available to help you. Talking to a physician or therapist for professional help may be just the tip you need to get yourself back in the loop of everyday living.

ANXIETY AND CANNABIDIOL: FINAL THOUGHTS

While you worry and wait for things to happen or maybe not happen, think about what you can do, what you do have control over. Maybe that looks like self-care? Helping others? Going on a solo walk? Whichever and whatever that may look like to you, anxiety is approachable, manageable, and treatable.

The research surrounding cannabinoids and their effects on reducing anxiety are holding great promise thus far. CBD has been suggested to be an anti-anxiety agent in animal and human clinical studies, over the last 20+ years. Non-toxic? 100% natural? Done and done!

Hope today’s article helped ease your anxiety, see ya on the other side of the bridge!

Pure CBD Oil. What Is It & Where Can I Get It?

What is Pure CBD Oil?

CBD is a nonpsychoactive chemical compound that naturally occurs in the cannabis plant. It is one of the compounds in cannabis known as cannabinoids. It is widely considered to have excellent medical benefits and has been used with holistic applications for centuries. Interestingly, it is also used to make textiles and building materials like clothing, rope, paper, oil and concrete. In medicines, it is normally used by patients in the form of oil. Impressively, CBD does not have mind-altering effects. It does not cause the feeling of being high but induces relaxation without the intoxicating effects. There are three varieties of CBD. CBD Isolate, which is CBD molecules completely isolated into a 99.8% pure compound. Broad spectrum CBD, which contains all the natural occurring terpenes and cannabinoids in the hemp plants but the THC has been isolated away from the final product. Full spectrum oil refers to the oil containing all the naturally according cannabinoids and terpenes in eluding THC. However, the amount of detectable THC must be 0.3% or less for the product to be considered  hemp and therefore federally legal.

THE BENEFITS-PURE CBD OIL

There are many amazing benefits of CBD for the human body and can serve as a natural alternative to common prescription drugs.

  • It stimulates appetite and eases nausea and vomiting.
  • It reduces anxiety and discomfort without any adverse effects hence better than anti-depressants.
  • It inhibits cancer cell growth by inducing cell death and controlling the spread of cancer cells.
  • It relieves psychotic symptoms associated with schizophrenia.
  • It soothes chronic pain by inhibiting neuronal transmission in pain pathways.
  • It reduces inflammation problems such as swelling of joints caused by Rheumatoid Arthritis and other chronic and acute issues.
  • It reduces inflammation and elevated blood glucose associated with diabetes.
  • It may treat seizures and other neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Huntington’s disease.

CBD is consumed as a medicinal oil that is used to treat and prevent symptoms of diseases and also reduce chronic pain and inflammation. Tinctures can be used by both orally and topically. It can also produce the best edibles which help relieve pain. Pure CBD oil can also produce items for dogs making it easier to administer natural medicine to pets.

WHERE TO PURCHASE?

Finding the right Pure CBD oil to use is not an easy task. But, we have put together a guideline as seen below on where to begin your search for CBD oils and products to ensure a safe and effective product just for you.

ONLINE-eCOMMERCE

CBD products are sold online which offer a quick, secure and convenient way to buy products. When shopping online, you will have a variety of products to choose from which is an added advantage. Furthermore, before buying you can compare prices and choose one that is most suitable for you. Also, the product will be delivered to your doorstep. Our site specializes in affordable and natural CBD products found here.

MOM & POP SHOP… AND EVERYWHERE ELSE!

Besides shopping online, you can buy CBD products in retail shops or over the counter at places like Whole Foods, Sprouts, Barber Shops, Gyms, Nutrition stores and similar natural markets. The advantage is you get to see the products before you purchase and you can also ask questions to clarify what you don’t understand. You also get to look at other products that you might be interested in and learn more about others that you might need. To get safe products, you should ask about the third-party test results because some companies take advantage and make products that do not have enough CBD. Also, to get the right products you should research more on the products. If it is exceedingly cheap to be true, then avoid it!!  Yes, this is because you might end up buying an inferior product which will not have the required benefits and may contain contaminants. Furthermore, check the labels to ensure you don’t buy illegal or dangerous untested products… Poor quality products do slip through the cracks!!

MEDICINAL MARIJUANA SHOPS.

In areas where the use of CBD is legal, there are medical cannabis dispensaries which offer CBD-rich products. In this case, a medical doctor must certify patients before purchasing CBD oil. Furthermore, the doctor must be registered with the state’s medical-marijuana program. More importantly, the dispensaries must meet the standards which are set by the law. Usually, the state conducts routine background checks on the owner of the dispensaries and the staff working there. In the same token, security requirements and licensing guidelines must be met. The products at the dispensaries should be tested to ensure safety.

CBD - HEMP vs. MARY JANE AKA: MARIJUANA

Not all CBD is created equal, but there is often some confusion between CBD that is derived from hemp versus that is derived from marijuana. It’s important for consumers looking to buy Pure CBD oil to understand the difference between the two in terms of its legality and efficacy before making a purchase.

To make the distinction between the two, it helps to gain an understanding of hemp and marijuana, both of which come from the cannabis sativa plant species. Hemp plants have been around for decades and are typically used for the production of all sorts of different commercial products. It’s a legal product that’s widely available on many store shelves, especially since the recent pass of the farm bill. Historically, this plant is predominantly grown for its durable fiber.

On the other hand, marijuana is a shorter and wider plant that is mainly grown for its flowers and buds. This plant is typically grown specifically to be smoked for recreational and medical purposes or for cannabinoid extraction.

Perhaps the biggest difference between hemp and marijuana is the THC and CBD content. Both are cannabinoids, but THC has psychoactive properties and interacts directly with CB1 and CB2 receptors, whereas CBD does not. Marijuana is typically bred to have high levels of THC, while hemp is cultivated to have minimal THC (if any at all). While THC and CBD are both cannabinoids, they’re very different.

Since THC is federally illegal, medical marijuana can only be lawfully bought and used in the handful of states that have legalized it including California, Oregon and Washington. On the other hand, hemp is legal because of its minimal or non-existent THC levels, meaning it is readily accessible everywhere. As such, the CBD oil that is extracted from hemp is also much more widely available and legal for purchase and use.

Hemp-derived CBD oil is safe for use by just about everyone including children, pets, and pregnant or nursing women who prefer a natural product over traditional pharmaceuticals.

In contrast, marijuana-derived CBD oil may not be safe for consumption for everyone mainly because of the THC content of this particular plant.
