The Ballad of Johnny Casali
I met Johnny Casali in person at The Harvest Ball in Santa Rosa, CA. We spoke on the phone for hours before my trip out west. Of course, I heard the story of Casali’s crazy journey through the criminal justice system; still, I was unsure what to expect.
I found a person I can only describe as a perpetual ray of light—a guy who radiates love, relentless positivity, and pure passion for the plant.
I have never before encountered a person quite like Johnny Casali. In my eyes, he is a hero of the highest order—the true heart and soul of Southern Humboldt.
Casali has taught me many things. Chief among them is that no matter how terrible something appears to be on the surface, you must take it in stride and stay the course. Never give up, and never surrender.
My respect for Johnny means even more to me than the level of admiration I hold for him. I hope he comprehends how crucial a role he plays in the lives of so many other people, including my own.
All who visit his farm in Whitethorn quickly realize that Casali is laser-focused on doing everything he can to uplift, inspire, and empower his community as well the cannabis culture at large.
The unjust series of events and overwhelmingly heartbreaking hurdles that Johnny overcame to become the man he is today proves that there is always hope for everyone.
To this day, Johnny’s guidance and stories still assist me in staying positive in the face of strife. If you know The Ballad of Johnny Casali, you will be able to see a silver lining in any objectively shitty situation. Truly a gift.
Being able to count Casali as a friend is both an understatement and an honor. If you have a guy like Johnny in your corner, you have made it pretty fucking far.
